Lake Lure North
Carolina Information
Lake Lure North Carolina is about 25 miles from Asheville, North Carolina is what some have
called the “jewel of the mountains.” Beautiful Lake Lure, NC sits in
the Hickory Nut Gorge, and has some of the most beautiful landscapes
in the Western North Carolina mountains. With gorgeous NC mountain
views and luscious greenery, Lake Lure has been featured in a few
major motion pictures such as The Last of the Mohicans and
Dirty Dancing.
Located on the Thermal Belt, the climate of Lake Lure North Carolina is relatively
mild year round, as compared to the other mountain places
surrounding Lake Lure. Even in the winter, Lake Lure experiences
warmer temperatures than the surrounding areas, which is one of the
many reasons people love living here. Lake Lure North Carolina is also home to a
variety of ecological treasures such as many varieties of plant life
and a few distinct animals that can only be found in Lake Lure. The
best known is Bat Cave, the longest fissure cave in North America,
with its resident populations of federally endangered Indiana bats
and rare green salamanders.
Lake Lure has about 1,000 full time residents with as many as 10,000
visitors throughout the tourist season. People travel to Lake Lure
and Western North Carolina,
to enjoy swimming, boating, fishing, hiking and many other fun
outdoor activities.
The Town of Lake Lure owns and controls the lake, shoreline, and
dam, and though it does generate hydroelectric power for sale, the
town maintains a fixed water level year-round for the pleasure and
convenience of residents, vacationers, and tourists.
Lake Lure North Carolina is also relatively close to larger urban areas, another
reason why it is so popular. Asheville is approximately thirty
minutes away, Charlotte is a bit further away and about a two hour
drive. To the south of Lake Lure is Greenville SC, about an hour and
a half away, and Atlanta, GA which is about 3 hours away. Also,
there are 3-4 hospitals within a thirty minute drive from Lake Lure,
making it a very safe place to work and play.
Each week, more families from Atlanta, Charleston, and Charlotte are
discovering how convenient Lake Lure North Carolina can be for a weekend getaway.
Many present and future retirees are moving here, to the "Isothermal
Belt," rather than face the summers of Florida or the winters of
points further north.
The economy and real estate market has appreciated in recent years,
however living at Lake Lure is still affordable. Visit Lake Lure and
you will see why so many people have fallen in love with the area
and enjoy living and vacationing here. |
